SNS, SILIGURI,  6 JANUARY 22 : Four more areas under four wards of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) were brought under the micro-containment zones today. Officials said the move was meant to tackle the fresh surge in Covid-19 cases in the town.

The eighth floor in one of the blocks at the Uttarayan township under the Matigara block is also under a containment zone.

The Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri district administration has already declared some portions of wards 14,19, 25 an d 39 and two areas under the Atharakhai gram panchayat of Matigara as containment zones.

The Third Mile area at Sevoke Road, Salugara, under ward 42 has also been declared as containment zone. The Jalpaiguri district administration issued a notification in this regard today.

As the Siliguri Municipal Corporation goes to the polls on 22 January, many candidates contesting the elections have expressed concern over the situation.

An order issued by the Darjeeling district administration said that the area opposite Matrisadan, the SMC run maternity health care facility, at Dabgram under ward 23, Girish Ghosh Sarani at Hakim Para of ward 16, a building at Dadabhai More under ward 30 have been marked as micro containment zones under the civic body area.

The order will remain in force till 13 January.

185 fresh cases in Darjeeling district

The number of Covid cases continues to rise in Darjeeling district. The district recorded 185 fresh cases, with Singuri Municipal Corporation, covering 14 wards that fall in Jalpaiguri district, registering 96 cases, sources said. The corporation area that falls under Darjeeling district logged 89 fresh cases. Matigara block reported 42 cases, while 21 persons were tested positive in the Darjeeling Municipality area, the sources added.
