Covid cases go up in North Bengal: Darj district reports 1385 cases in past three days

Don't Miss

SNS, SILIGURI, 16 JANUARY 22 : As a fresh Covid-19 wave sweeps the country, the number of cases in North Bengal is also increasing by the day. Darjeeling district has recorded more than 1000 cases in the past three days.
Around a fortnight ago, the district had reported 88 new cases on 4 January, but the number suddenly went up to 541 yesterday, according to the daily reports issued by officials.
According to the health department, the district found 373 cases on 14 January and 471 on 13 January.
"The active caseloads were restricted initially to certain places. However, it witnessed a rapid spread everywhere. Darjeeling district has found 1385 cases in the last three days. The general disregard for Covid-19 protocols by the people has triggered the surge. But it is also clear that the latest spurt has been a part of a more, huge nationwide wave and not an isolated local rise. In order to bring the situation under control, people should be more serious in following protocols, and conduct Covid tests if there are symptoms," said a public health specialist tracking the Covid graph.
Health department officials, however, said they were satisfied with the recovery rate of Covid patients.
Meanwhile, a 47-year-old resident of Islampur in North Dinajpur district died in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri today, sources said. He had been admitted to the hospital on 13 January. The sources said he had been fully vaccinated against Covid-I9.
278 fresh cases
Darjeeling district today reported 278 fresh cases of the coronavirus. Areas of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) that fall in Darjeeling district detected 99 cases, and areas that fall in Jalpaiguri district found 21 cases, sources said.
Twelve cases were found in Darjeeling Municipality, eight in Sukna, 11 in Kurseong Municipality area, four in Mirik sub-division, two in Mirik Municipality, 15 in Bijanbari, four in Sukhia Pokhari, two in Takdah, six in Kharibari, 78 in Matigara, 35 in Naxalbari, and two in Phansidewa.
