One more child dies at NBMCH

SILIGURI, 6 OCTOBER 21: After a consecutive three-day lull in deaths related to fever and acute respiratory infections (ARI) among children at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), one child suffering from respiratory problems died them today, sources said. The three-year-old baby girl was from Jalpaiguri, the sources said. According to NBMCH authorities, with the death, 11 children suffering from fever and ARI have died there in the last few days.

Four such children have been admitted in the paediatric ward in the last 24 hours, sources said.

Meanwhile, three more children also died due to sepsis and low birth weight.

A seven-day-old baby from Naxalbari died due to neonatal sepsis, while another baby from Pulbazaar in Darjeeling had been suffering from low birth weight and jaundice, the sources said. An eight month-old baby of Alipurduar suffering from cardiac disease also died there.

Forty-one children have been admitted in the paediatric ward in the past 24 hours. Four children have been referred front Jalpaiguri Hospital and Malbazaar.
