Total active Covid-19 cases fell by 17 to 8,008 on Friday, with 89 straight days of a fall.
Calcutta logged 138 new infections and North 24-Parganas 124, the only two among Bengal’s 23 districts with a three-digit figure of new cases detected in a day. Eight districts reported a single-digit figure.
Twenty Bengal districts reported zero deaths. Calcutta logged three deaths and North 24-Parganas five.
The state’s recovery rate is 98.29 per cent, its highest this pandemic, and ahead of the national rate of 97.63 per cent. Its mortality rate is 1.19 per cent and that of the nation is 1.33 per cent.
Bengal’s daily Covid-19 positive confirmation rate was 1.79 per cent on Friday.
The state currently has over 15.6 lakh Covid-19 cases since the first was reported in March last year. The total includes more than 15.33 lakh recoveries and 18,629 deaths.
