Darj man scales Everest 11th time
Mr Sherpa scaled the world's highest peak for the 11th time on 12 May this year, while he was part of a nine-member team from Nepal and Canada, among others countries. They went for the expedition through the Nepal-based Seven Summit Trek Agency
"Our expedition started in the month of March this year, with us making the summit this month. I have just returned to Darjeeling," said Mr Sherpa, claiming that such a feat of summiting Everest 11 times has not been done by any other person from India before.
In his 25 years as a mountain guide, he has scaled Mt Everest 15 times now, with him also a part of what is called the "fixing team" or "ice doctors" who prepare the route for the climbing season at Everest by braying the treacherous Khumbu icefall, among other things, so mountaineers can have a route to summit the peak.
Mr Sherpa has summited Everest in the years 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, twice in 2012, 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019 and recently this year.
He was also part of the rescue team at Mt Everest in the year 2016, when around 56 mountaineers were rescued from just below the Everest summit.
Apart from Everest, he has also summited Mt Manaslu (8163 m) in Nepal thrice.
