KalimNews, Kalimpong, 27 May 21 :  Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata of Indian Meteorological Department notifies the followings as information and warning as updated from time to time.

Thunderstorm with lightning, gusty wind and rainfall Warning.

Thunderstorm  with lightning and gusty wind speed 30-40 kmph and  light to moderate rainfall likely to affect  over some parts of Howrah, Hooghly North & South  24 Parganas, Birbhum,  Murshidabad  districts of West Bengal during next 1-3 hours from 08:30 hours IST of today 27.05.2021.

THE CYCLONIC STORM ‘YAAS’ (PRONOUNCED AS ‘YASS’) WEAKENED INTO A DEEP DEPRESSION AND LAY CENTRED AT 2330 HRS IST OF THE 26TH MAY, 2021 OVER SOUTH JHARKHAND AND ADJOINING NORTH INTERIOR ODISHA NEAR LATITUDE 22.4°N AND LONGITUDE 85.8°E, ABOUT 60 KM WEST-SOUTHWEST OF JAMSHEDPUR AND 110 KM SOUTH SOUTH-EAST OF  RANCHI.

THE SYSTEM IS VERY LIKELY TO MOVE FURTHER NORTHWESTWARDS AND WEAKEN GRADUALLY INTO A DEPRESSION DURING NEXT 12 HOURS

Southwest monsoon been active over Andaman &Nicobar Islands. Gusty wind prevailed over the coastal districts of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. Maximum wind speed reported 88 Kmph At Digha, 68 kmph at Frasherganj, 62 kmph at Kolkata, 65 Kmph at Haldia, 26 Kmph 
At Diamond Harbour. Odisha:Balasore-78 kmph, Chandbali-33 kmph, Paradip-39 kmph, Bhubaneshwar-30 kmph, Puri-15 kmph.
Light to moderate rain occurred at many places with Extremely heavy rain at one or two places, Very Heavy to Heavy rain at one or two places over Odisha. Rain occurred at most places with Heavy rain at one or two places over Andaman & Nicobar Island. Light to moderate rain occurred at most places over the districts of Gangetic West Bengal. Very light to moderate rain occurred at most places over Jharkhand. Very light to light rain occurred at most places over the districts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal and at a few places over Bihar. Light rain occurred at most places over Sikkim. Weather remained dry over the rest of the region. 
Yesterday’s maximum temperature fell appreciably to markedly at most places over West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand and Odisha and fell markedly at most places over Bihar. No large change occurred elsewhere in the region. 
Those were markedly below normal at most places over Bihar and Jharkhand; appreciably to markedly below normal at most over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha; below to markedly below normal at a few places over Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and were normal elsewhere in the region. Highest maximum temperature of 37.6°C was recorded at Bolangir (Odisha) in the plains of the region. 
The northern limit of Southwest Monsoon continues to pass through 5°N/75°E, 7°N/80°E, 11°N/85°E, 13°N/90°E and 16°N/94.5°E. Conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Maldives­ Comorin area and Southwest & Eastcentral Bay of Bengal; some parts of Westcentral Bay of Bengal and entire Southeast Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours. 
The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Yaas’ (pronounced as ‘Yass’) over northwest Bay of Bengal moved north ­northwestwards with a speed of about 17 kmph during past 6 hours, and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of 26th May, 2021 over Northwest Bay of Bengal close to North Odisha coast near latitude 21.2°N and longitude 87.3°E, about 45 km north­ northeast of Dhamra, 40 km south southeast of Balasore (Odisha) and 50 km southwest of Digha (West Bengal). 
The system would cross north Odisha coast to the south of Balasore during next 3 hours as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 130­140 kmph gusting to 155 kmph.

27 May
1) Heavy to very heavy rain (7-20cm) at one or two places with extremely heavy rain(>20cm) at one or two places likely to occur over Bihar. 
2) Heavy to very heavy rain(7-20cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Jharkhand. 
3) Heavy rain (7-11cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sikkim and Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Malda, Bankura, Purulia, West Burdwan and Birbhum districts of West Bengal. 
4)Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind with speed reaching 40-50 kmph likley to occur over Andaman & Nicobar Islands. 
5) Thunderstorm with lightning and likely to occur at one or two places over Bihar, Sikkim and the districts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal.

28 May
1) Heavy rain (7-11cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands. 2) Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind with speed reaching 40-50 kmph likley to occur over Andaman &Nicobar Islands. 
3) Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind with speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over Jharkhand. 
4)Thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at one or two places over Bihar and the districts of Gangetic West Bengal. 

29 May
1) Heavy rain (7-11cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands. 2) Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind with speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over Jharkhand and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. 
3) Thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at one or two places over Bihar, Sikkim and the districts of West Bengal. 

30 May
1) Heavy rain (7-11cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands. 2) Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind with speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands. 
3)Thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at one or two places over Sikkim and the districts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal.
