One lakh Gorkhas excluded from Assam NRC: AAGSU

SNS, SILIGURI: The All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) on Thursday claimed that around 1 lakh Gorkhas had been excluded from the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) because of negligence around two years ago.
In Siliguri, AAGSU leaders contested the recent 'reports' that only 20,000 Gorkhas had been left out of the NRC.
AAGSU vice-president Dilip Gaujurel said they were in favour of the exercise for weeding out Bangladeshi infiltrators, but that they were strongly against harassment faced by genuine citizens.
Mr Gajurel said many Gorkhas had been tagged as doubtful voters.
