In Darj, Thapa visits villages - in Darjeeling town and interacting with people about their needs and problems
SNS, DARJEELING. 2 DECEMBER 2020: The chairman of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Board of Administrators, Anit Thapa, who is also the general secretary of the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (Binoy Tamang faction), is presently visiting different places in Darjeeling town and interacting with people about their needs and problems.
Mr Thapa's halt in the town started on 26 December after the march from Sonada to Darjeeling, where, in a public meeting, he had said that he is the "guardian of this place" and that if the other camp of the Morcha could they should try and chase him away.
During his visit to Ward 17, Mangalpuri, today, Mr Thapa said,"I am staying here in Darjeeling for some days now, and during this period I want to know the people here and make them know me. I am visiting different villages here. In the past, it was very hard for people to meet the GTA Chairman, and I want to change that. People should not make leaders kings, which is being done by our people, and once he becomes the king, people cannot meet him."
Mr Thapa also said that he wanted to change the way shutdowns are called by leaders to get hold of power. According to him, the situation of the Hills was such that leaders did not go for movements about things that were needed, but they launched agitations for things llke Gorkhaland. "which they did not have any idea about."
"We have understood the fact that agitations will not get us anything, so we have to stay away from it. Gorkhaland is our dream and everyone wants it, but the leaders here are playing with our sentiments. The children of the leaders do not come hit the streets, but the common people are. I am against this system and not the issue of Gorkhaland.
Our intellectuals should form a forum and make the state and the Centre understand this issue of ours," Mr Thapa said. According to him, his party's main issue right now was parja-patta (land rights deeds) and that the government should form a committee so that the process for granting the same can be started.
He also laid the foundation stone of the Amar Jyoti Sarvajanik Bhawan at Mangalpuri today.
