GNLF team to go to Delhi with PPS, ST status agenda
Five-member delegation met West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar at the Governor's House here today, where they also served him a memorandum on these two issues
SNS, DARJEELING, 19 NOVEMBER 2020 : Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) president Mann Ghisingh today said that a delegation of his party would soon go to Delhi and take up issues of a 'permanent political solution' (PPS) and granting of tribal status to 11 Gorkha communities with the Centre.
According to Mr Ghisingh, their five-member delegation met West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar at the Governor's House here today, where they also served him a memorandum on these two issues.
"We served a memorandum to the Governor today on the issues of PPS and tribal status and he gave us a good response. We will soon go to Delhi and meet the Home Minister and take up these issues, which have been mentioned in their election manifesto. We will ask that a meeting be called to resolve these issues," Mr Ghisingh said.
The GNLF leader also stressed on the point that people should keep their faith on the BJP intact, and that it would ensure that the people here would get justice.
"In the MP elections, people supported the BJP candidate and made him MP with a huge margin. The trust they have on them should remain as our focus should not change. I appeal to the people to not lose hope as if we do not keep faith on them, nothing will happen," he said, adding that Gorkhas should also be united as they would not get such an opportunity again.
He also made the same appeal to the people of the Dooars, maintaining that the solution they got for the hills should be for them also. He said if Dooars was left from the solution, they would not accept it and would launch a protest.
Stating that people should wait as it takes time for things to fall in place, Mr Ghisingh also said that they hoped for some 'good news' for the people here before the Assembly elections in Bengal next year.
