Two die in Siliguri; one 17 year old in North Dinajpur

87 fresh Covid cases in Darjeeling district, 86 in Malda, 39 fresh cases in Alipurduar district

SNS, SILIGURI, 4 OCTOBER 2020: Two persons died in two separate designated hospitals for Covid- 19 patients in Siliguri in the past 24 hours, sources said.

A 72-year-old person from Alipurduar district died in Dr Chhang's Hospital at Matigara last evening.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy, who had tested positive for Covid-19, died in North Dinajpur last night, sources claimed. He was a resident of Baghan Bottoli village under the Kaliyaganj police station. it is learnt.

"He was admitted in the Raiganj Covid hospital at Chhatparua on 30 September," a source said.

According to a source at the district health office, three Covid patients have died in the district in the past 48 hours, and that all of them were residents of areas in Kaliyaganj.

On the other hand, 43 new cases of Covid-19 have been detected in North Dinajpur district in the past 24 hours, sources said. The fresh cases included the Executive Officer of the Kaliyaganj Municipality. Chairman of the Kaliyaganj Municipality Kartick Chandra Paul confirmed that Ashutosh Biswas had tested positive for the virus. "This is the first time that someone has tested positive for the virus in our municipality office. Our office was properly sanitized today, while we have appealed to residents to be careful of the spread of the virus and follow all government guidelines to stop the spread," Mr Paul said.

87 fresh Covid cases in Darjeeling district

Darjeeling district recorded 87 fresh Covid cases, including 32 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), four in Darjeeling Municipality, four in Kurseong Municipality, three in Mirik, two in Sukhia Pokhari, nine in Sukna, two in Kharibari, 16 in Matigara, 13 in Naxalbari, and two in Phansidewa, sources said. Twenty-six cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC.

Also today, 55 patients were released either from hospitals or home isolation, the sources added.

86 in Malda

Malda district, on the other hand, detected 86 fresh cases, taking the district tally to around 6500 cases, sources said.

Among the fresh cases, 70 samples were found positive in the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital last night, while the remaining sixteen were detected through rapid antigen tests. Thirty-three of the fresh cases were from English Bazaar Municipality and nine from the Old Malda Municipality.

39 fresh cases in Alipurduar district

In Alipurduar, one Covid 19 patient died in the past 24 hours, district health official sources said. A total of 39 persons were also freshly tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours, the sources said.

A total of 59 Covid patients also tested negative and were released from hospitals and home isolation, they added.
