Two die in Siliguri; Malda sees spike in Covid cases

92 fresh cases in Darjeeling district, 127 in Malda


SNS, SILIGURI, 5 OCTOBER 2020: Two persons, including one Alipurduar resident, who had tested positive for Covid-19, have died in Siligiri, sources said.

A 60-year-old resident of Champasari in Siliguri died in the dedicated hospital for Covid-19 pattients at Kawakhali today. He had been admitted there on 29 September.

A 55-year-old resident of Hamiltanganj in Alipurduar district also died in a private hospital today, sources said.

92 fresh cases in Darjeeling district

Darjeeling district reported 92 fresh cases today, including 44 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, five in Darjeeling Municipality, 14 in Kharibari, six in Matigara, 16 in Naxalbari, six in Phansidewa, and one in Pulhazaar Bijanbari, sources said. A total of 50 patients have also recovered, including those in home isolation. Twelve cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC.

127 in Malda

In Malda, Kaliachak-II block seems to have become the new hotspot for Covid-19 infection as 50 fresh cases were detected there in tests conducted at the VRDL. in the Malda Medical College and Hospital last night. Seventy-six others were also freshly tested positive in the district, sources said.

With the detection of one more case through the rapid antigen test, the total cases in a single day in the district was 127 yesterday, the sources said. A total of 28 cases were from the English Bazaar area and others from different blocks like Manikchak, Bamongola, Gazole, and Ratua I and II.
