Six Covid -19 patients die in Siliguri hosps

104 fresh cases in Darjeeling district

SILIGURI, 13 OCTOBER 2020 : Six persons died in two dedicated hospitals for Covid-19 patients in Siliguri in the past 24 hours, sources said. Four persons died in the hospital at Kawakhali, while one died in the hospital at Matigara.

A 75-year-old person of the NJP area had been admitted in the Desun Hospital on 9 October, while a 70-year-old resident of Bagdogra had been admitted to the hospital on 11 October.

An 65-year-old person front Kotwali in Jalpaiguri also died there. A 60-year-old resident of Chalsa in Jalpaiguri district died at Dr Chhang's Hospital at Matigara last evening.

A 70-year-old resident of Samuktala, Alipurduar district, died in the Desun Hospital hours after his admission today.

Also today, a 70-year-old resident of Kotwali in Jalpaiguri died in the Desun Hospital today he had been admitted to the hospital on 11 October, sources said.

Meanwhile, minister of state for health and family welfare Chandrima Bhattacharya, who was in Siliguri today, said the patients who died had co-morbidities.

"The recovery rate is satisfactory, as it is more than 88 percent. Many elderly people are also getting cured, but if they are suffering from other illness, they need to be alerted," she said.

104 fresh cases in Darjeeling district

Darjeeling district, meanwhile, recorded 104 fresh covid- 19 cases today, sources said. Three new cases included 39 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, two in Darjeeling Municipality, eight in Kharibari, two in Kurseong Municipality, four in Sukna, 19 in Matigara, one in Mirik, 15 in Naxalbari, 11 in Phansidewa, one in Pulbazaar Bijanbari, one in Sukhia Pokhari, and one in Takdah.

The Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC also detected 13 cases, sources said. Also today, 61 patients either ended their home isolation or were discharged from hospitals.

61 in Malda

Malda district recorded 61 flesh cases of Covid- 19, 42 cases through the RT-PCR tests and

19 through rapid antigen tests last night, sources said.

This tally is, however, so far the lowest in October, as everyday infections had reached or crossed the 100 mark earlier.

The total number of cases in Malda so far has gone up to almost 8000. Health officials and experts, on the other hand, fear a surge in the number of cases during the upcoming festive season.

Dip in cases in North Dinajpur

The past two days have seen a dip in the number of daily infections in North Dinajpur.

Only I7 fresh cases were recorded in the district in the past 24 hours, sources said.

A total of 41 and 21 persons were tested positive for the virus on 10 and 11 October, respectively According to officials at the district health office, the infection rate has started to go down from 10 October. "If people follow the government guidelines and wear masks and maintain physical distancing properly, we can contain the spread soon. No death has been reported it in the district in the past two days." a source said.

30 in South Dinajpur

In South Dinajpur, the Officer on Special Duty for Covid19 in North Bengal, Dr Susanta Roy, is scheduled to meet officials of the district health department tomorrow. The health depanment and administrative officials are worried about crowds at public places in view of the upcoming festivaIs. The state government has already instructed the health department to arrange for more beds in Covid hospitals, while the south Dinajpur health department has started preparations in this regard, it is learnt.

On the other hand, 30 new cases were detected in the district in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases so far to 5863, sources said. Also today 59 patients were released from the Covid hospital, taking the total number of patients who have recovered to 5574. Eight more new cases were detected in the Balurghat Municipality, taking the tally there 1050 cases so far.There are 247 active cases presently in the district, among them 177 in home isolation.
