One dies in Siliguri Malda sees a spike

85 in Darjeeling district, 86 recovered, 142 new cases in Malda


SNS, SILIGURI, 11 OCTOBER 2020 : A 58-year-old resident of Bhaktinagar died at the dedicated hospial for Covid-19 patients at Kawakahli in Siliguri today. He had been admitted in the hospital yesterday, sources said.

142 new cases in Malda

The daily Covid tally in Malda has started an upward climb as 142 fresh cases were detected in tests conducted in the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and through rapid antigen tests, sources said. Health officials and experts in the district have started to fear a spike in the cases during the upcoming festive season. Among the fresh cases, Habibpur detected 25, Kaliachak-III 19, English Bazaar Municipality area 16 and Old Malda Municipality 17. The remaining cases were spread across other blocks.

85 in Darjeeling district

Meanwhile, Darjeeling district reported 85 new Covid cases today, sources said. The fresh cases included 39 in the Siliguri Municipal Corpotation, seven in Darjeeling Municipality, nine in Kharibari, four in Kurseong Municipality, five in Sukna, 11 in Matigara, seven in Naxalbari, two in Phansidewa, and one in Pulbazaar/Bijanbari.

Separately, 10 cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC. Also today, 86 patients either ended their home isolation or were discharged from Covid hospitals, the sources added.

41 in North Dinajpur

North Dinajpur reported 41 new cases of Covid -19 spread across different blocks and municipalities in the past 24 hours, sources said. The new infections have taken the tally in the district to 4093 so far. According to district health officials,36369 persons have so far recovered and that there are 388 active cases. A total of 44 persons have also died of the virus in the district so far.

30 in South Dinajpur

In South Dinajpur, 30 new samples were tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 5774 cases there. On the other hand, 26 patients were discharged from the Covid hospital in the past 24 hours. The total number of patients undergoing treatment in home isolation is 227, while there are 299 active cases in the district, the district health office said. The number of patients who have recovered so far stands at 5435. Six of the fresh cases were from the Balurghat Municipality area, where the total number of cases has now gone up to 1034, officials said.
