Four Covid patients die in Siliguri

Covid patients of Banarhat, Kalimpong, North Dinajpur, Siliguri died, 131 new Covid cases in Darjeeling district, 119 new cases in Malda


SNS, SILIGURI, 9 OCTOBER 2020 : A 75 year-old person of Banarhat at Jalpaiguri district died at the designated hospital for Covid-19 patients at Matigara in Siliguri.The person had been admitted in the hospital on 3 October, sources said.

A 55 year-old resident of Kalimpong, who had been admitted in the hospital on 5 October, also died there last night.

Another patient, a 45 year-old resident of North Dinajpur district, also died there. She had been admitted there on 1 October.

A 69 year-old resident of Siliguri who had tested positive for the virus also died in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital today.

131 new Covid cases in Darjeeling district

Meanwhile, Darjeeling district today recorded 131 fresh Covid-19 cases, including 53 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation area (SMC), four in Darjeeling Municipality, 15 in Kharibari, nine in Kurseong Municipality, four in Sukna, 18 in Matigara, three in Mirik, 13 in Naxalbari, three in Phansidewa, three in Pulbazaar/ Bijanbari and six in Takdah, sources said.

A total of 34 cases were separately detected in SMC areas that fall underJlalpaiguri district, the sources added.

Also today, 63 patients who recovered from the virus were discharged from either home isolation or Covid hospitalsin the district, officials said.

119 new cases in Malda

On the other hand, Malda district reported another 119 cases of Covid- 19 in tests conducted at the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital and through rapid antigen tests, sources said. A total of 28 cases were detected in Bamongola and 12 in Ratua-I, while the remaining cases were from different blocks of the district.

60 more cases in South Dinajpur

South Dinajpur recorded 60 new Covid cases today. The fresh cases have taken the district's Covid tally to 5699 now. Also, the number of patients who recovered has gone up to 5380, with 26 patients discharged from the Covid hospital today, officials said.The number of active patients in the district is 280 presently, they added.

On the other hand, the rate of infection in Balurghat Municipality has gone up, with 16 new cases detected today. With this, the total number of patients in the municipality has gone up to 1018.
