Business Standard | New Delhi | October 11, 2020 : Coronavirus update: India's coronavirus caseload surged past the 7 million-mark on Saturday, while the total number of recoveries too crossed 6 million. The country is the second worst-hit nation in terms of Covid-19 cases after the US, while it is in the third spot in terms of fatalities globally after the US and Brazil. More than 100,000 people in the country have died from the coronavirus infection so far.
Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state with 15,06,018 Covid-19 positive cases. There are 8,83,185 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 12.65 per cent of the total caseload.
China has officially joined the World Health Organization's (WHO) COVAX alliance to equitably distribute coronavirus vaccines around the globe, ending speculation that it plans to supply them on its own to developing countries to improve its image dented by the pandemic since it emerged in Wuhan in December last year.
World coronavirus update: The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 37,458,924. While 28,111,512 have recovered, 1,077,428 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country, has 7,945,505 cases. It is followed by India, which has 7,051,543 cases, Brazil (5,091,840) and Russia (1,285,084).
