3 die in Siliguri, 114 cases in South Dinajpur


76 fresh cases in Darjeeling district, 104 new cases in Malda


SNS, SILIGURI, 18 OCTOBER 2020 : A 82-year-old resident of Phansidewa near Siliguri in Darjeeling district died within a few hours of his admission at Desun Hospital, the designated hospital for Covid- 19 patieents at Kawakhali in Siliguri, last evening, sources said.

A 35-year-old resident of Kharibari, also near Siliguri, who had tested positive for Covid-19, died in the respiratory intensive care unit of the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, it is learnt.

A 49-year-old resident of Deshhandhu Para in Siliguri who had tested positive for Covid -19 also died in a private nursing home in Siliguri, sources said.

Meanwhile, the daily graph of Covid cases in South Dinajpur also crossed the 100 mark today after almost one week. A total of 114 new patients were detected as having the infection in the past 24 hours.The fresh cases has now taken the Covid tally in the district to 6239 so far. Ten of the fresh cases were found in the Balurghat municipality area, where the total number of cases so far has gone up to 1098, sources said.The total active cases in the district stand at 415, of them 312 in home isolation. A total of 44 patients have also been discharged from the hospital after treatment in the past 24 hours, it is learnt. 

104 new cases in Malda

Continuing the trend of over a hundred Covid cases daily, Malda district recorded another 104 cases last night, sources said. A total of 85 positive cases were detected at the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital through the RT-PCR method, while the rest were found through rapid antigen tests. English Bazaar Municipality area had the highest infection rate of 38, as compared to other blocks. Habibpur with 13 cases and Gazole with 11 cases followed, the sources added.

76 fresh cases in Darjeeling district

Darjeeling district recorded 76 new cases of Covid-19 today, sources said.

Thirty-eight of the cases were found in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, two in Darjeeling Municipality, two in Kharibari, five in Kurseong Municipality, three in Sukna, seven in Matigara, one in Mirik, 12 in Naxalbari, two in Phansidewa, one in Pulbazaar/Bijanbari, and three in Sukhia Pokhari, sources said.

Four cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC.Also today, 82 Covid patients either ended their home isolation or were discharged from hospitals, the sources added.
