SNS, SILIGURI, 10 OCTOBER 2020: Darjeeling district recorded a whopping 145 new Covid-19

infections today, two Siliguri residents died at Deson Hospital, the designated hospital for Covid patients at Kawakhali in Siliguri, sources said.

An 83-year-old from Subhas Pally had been admitted there on 29 September, it is learnt. A 64-year-old person front Champasari, who had been admitted there on 4 October, also died there.

A 53-year-old resident of Jaigaon in Alipurduar district also died in a private nursing home in Siliguri today.

On the other hand, the chairperson of the board of administrators of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Asok Bhattacharya, today wrote to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, requesting her to take over complete control of the private hospital at Kawakhali for the treatment of Covid-19 patients again, as, according to him, the number of Covid cases was on the rise.

Meanwhile, Darjeeling district recorded 145 new Covid 19 cases today.

Sixty-four of the fresh cases were from the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, five in Darjeeling Municipality, 13 in Kharibari, eight in Kurseong Municipality, 16 in Sukna, 17 in Matigara, six in Mirik, 10 in Naxalbari, two in Phansidewa, one in Pulbazaar/Bijanbari, and three in Takdah, source said.

A total of 17 cases were also recorded in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC, the sources said.Also today 62 patients who recovered from the virus were release either from home hospitals or home isolation.

116 more in Malda

In Malda, another 116 samples of the 1001 tested at the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital last night were found positive, sources said. The English Bazaar Municipality area had almost 40 cases, while the remaining were distributed across the other blocks.Health officials and experts have expressed their concerns over the increase in the number of new infections during the festive season. The district has so far witnessed 7600 cases in total, with 57 deaths and around 800 active cases.
