Three die in Siliguril Malda dip on

SNS, SILIGURI, 22 SEPTEMBER 2020: Three persons, including two residents of Kalimpong, who had tested positive for Covid 19, died in three separate health facilities in Siliguri today.

A 44-year-old resident of Kalimpong died in the Desun (Covid) Hospital at Matigara, while a 51-year-old resident of Kalimpong died at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.

A 73-year-old resident of Oodlabari in Jalpaiguri district died in a private hospital. He had been admitted in the nursing home with his son on 5 September. His son has recovered and was discharged from the hospital earlier.

69 fresh cases in Darjeeling district

Darjeeling district recorded 69 Covid-19 cases today. Sources said that 21 cases were from areas under the Siliguri Municipality Corporation (SMC), one from Kharibari, five from Sukna, 20 from Matigara, four from Mirik, 14 from Naxalbari, two from Pulbazaar (Bijanbari), and two from Sukhia Pokhari. Eleven cases were reported in SMC areas that fall under Jalpaiguri district, the sources added.

Also today, 92 patients were either discharged from hospitals or they ended their home isolation treatment, they said.

Eleven in Malda

Malda recorded a dip in Covid cases as only 11 samples were tested positive among the 386 tested at the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital, sources said. Four of the fresh cases were from the English Bazaar Municipality area, two each from Old Malda, Kaliachak-II and III, and one in Old Malda Municipality area.

Sources said officials and the common people in Malda have once again heaved a sigh of relief at the downward Covid cases trend seen in the district for the past few days. Official sources, however, said that as earlier, they wre not letting their guard down rightaway and had been following all safety measures and guidelines.

96 fresh cases in Alipurduar district

In Alipurduar, 96 persons were tested positive for Covid19 in the past 24 hours, sources said, adding that two Covid19 patients had died in the past 24 hours. Eighty-six patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours there. The number of Covid- 19 cases in the district has now crossed the 4000 mark, health official sources said.

45 in South Dinajpur

In South Dinajpur, a total of 1478 tests were conducted in a single day today, with 45 tested positive for the virus, sources said. The total number of cases has now gone up to 4852 so far. On the other hand, 53 patients were discharged from hospitals today, while the total number of cured patients stands at 4539. According to the district health department report, only 25 patients are presently admitted in the Covid hospital.

Meanwhile, after the South Dinajpur district adminsitration lifted all restrictions in place for the Covid outbreak, people are seen violating the basic government guidelines that still remain in place.

As crowds in the market areas swelled, people were seen without face masks, while they violated all social distancing norms, sources said.
