Health dept takes steps to better Covid care services

93 new cases in Darjeeling district, Dept will deploy special medical officers, resident medical officers, and medical officers for CCUs in adequate numbers 


SNS,  SILIGURI, 29 SEPTEMBER 2020: In a bid to give treatment and patient care services at health facilities for Covid patients a boost, the state health department has said that principals of medical colleges and district chief medical officers of health (CMOH) will jointly monitor deployment of faculties, special medical officers, resident medical officers, and medical officers for CCUs in adequate numbers there. It said full-time manpower will be recruited on rotation basis.

The health department said in an order that the treatment and patient care services had to be followed in compliance with provisions of the "West Bengal Epidemic Disease, Covid-19 Regulations, 2020:

The health and family welfare department said that rapid response teams will be formed, including an anesthesiologist and medicine specialist, to treat serious patients. It further said that the Covid Patient Management System (CPMS) monitoring must be done by CMOHs and principals in the districts.

The order also asks specialists and other medical officers to stay near those hospitals. It underscores patient case management to hbe followed according to the guidelines issued by the department and ensuring adequate training on patient care management.

"The principals will arrange monitoring teams comprising faculties of all the concerned disciplines for mentoring and handholding support to the hospitals for Covid patients in the districts," the order says.

The department has stressed on rapid antigen tests inwards for severe acute respiratory infection patients to identify Covid patients, so that they can be admitted at designated hospitals without delay.

The order further states that patients have to be stabilized before referral so that the hospitals can get time to start management.

93 new cases in Darjeeling district

Meanwhile, Darjeeling district recorded 93 new Covid 19 cases today, including 33 the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, five in Darjeeling Municipality, six in Kharibari, two in Kurseong Municipality, two in Sukna, 15 in M atigara, six in Mirik, 16 in Naxalbari, three in Phansidewa, one in Pulbazaar/ Bijanbari, two in Sukhia Pokhari, and two in Takdah, sources said.

Ten cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC.

A total of 90 patients were also discharged, either from hospitals or home isolation, the sources added.

Two persons from Darjeeling Hills died in the Desun (Covid) Hospital at Kawakhali in Siliguri today. A 50-year-old resident of Singmari area was admitted in the hospital on 25 September, while a 63-year old had been admitted there on 23 September, sources said.

Also today, an 80-year-old person from Sonada in Darjeeling, died at Dr Chhang's Hospital in Siliguri, while another 76-year-old person of Aurohindo Pally in Siliguri died in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, sources said.

43 in Malda

In Malda, 13 new cases, including 21 through the rapid antigen tests, were detected in the past 24 hours, sources said. A total of 380 samples were tested in the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital last night, they added. Twelve cases were from areas under the English Bazaar Municipality, and nine from Gazole. The other cases were from different blocks like Bamongola, Habibpur, Old Malda Municipality, and Kaliachak.
