SNS, SILIGURI, 21 SEPTEMBER 2020 : Six persons died in the designated hospital for Covid -19 patients at Kawakhali in Siliguri in the past 24 hours, sources said.
Another 40-year-old resident of Kamakhyaguri in Alipurduar, who had tested positive for Covid-19, died in the surgical isolation ward of the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital today, sources said.
A 62-year-old resident of Ashrampara in Siliguri, who had been admitted in the Desun Covid Hospital on 14 September, died last evening. A 70-year-old resident of Kalimpong, who had been referred from the Kalimpong District Hospital, also died there last evening.
A 28-year-old resident of Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri district died today A 48-year-old resident of Malbazaar in Jalpaiguri district, who was admitted in the hospital on 18 September, also died today
Another 85-year-old resident of Banarhat in Jalpaiguri died today. Also today, a 68 year-old resident of Raiganj in North Dinajpur died at the hospital.
89 fresh cases in Darjeeling district
Meanwhile, Darjeelingdistrict reported 89 fresh Covid cases today, sources said. Forty-four cases were in areas under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, six in Darjeeling Municipality three in Kharibari, three in Sukna, 12 in Matigara, 11 in Naxalbari, three in Phansidewa, three in Pulbazaar (Bijanbari), three in Sukhia Pokhari, and one in Takdah. Separately the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC also reported 27 cases, sources said. A total of 76 patients were either discharged from hospitals or they ended their home isolation, they added.
26 in Malda
After a spike in Covid cases in the past few days, Malda reported only 26 fresh cases in samples tested in the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital, sources said. English Bazaar Municipality area had five cases, while Gazole and Chanchal-II each had four, among other blocks. The district has so far recorded almost 6250 cases, with 52 deaths and around 650 active cases, officials said.
50 in North Dinajpur
In North Dinajpur, 50 fresh cases were detected in the past 24 hours, sources said. According to district health officials, the new cases are from areas under Islampur, Chopra, Dalkhola, Goalpokhar, Karandighi, Raiganj and Itahar police stations. Chairman of the Raiganj Municipality Sandip Biswas said the infection rate in Raiganj had gone down and that only two persons were freshly tested positive in the past 24 hours.
