Darjeeling district recorded fresh 103 Covid- 19 cases, 59 fresh covid cases in Malda district, 59 in South Dinajpur

SNS, SILIGURI, 24 SEPTEMBER 2020 : Mirik Municipality in Darjeeling recorded first death of a Covid patient today. According to sources, the man, who had tested positive for the virus and who was under treatment in home isolation at Krishnanagar, died on the way to Dr Chhang's (Covid) Hospital late last night. 
"The man suddenly developed breathlessness and was taken to the Mirik Block hospital, which in turn referred him to Dr Chhang's Hospital in Siliguri. He, however, died before reaching the hospital," a source said.
Sources said this was the second case of a Covid patient dying in Mirik Sub-Division. They said a 70-year-old man had died in Panighatta under the sub-division on 17 August.
On the other hand, Darjeeling district recorded fresh 103 Covid- 19 cases, including 41 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, two in Kharibari, six in Sukuna, 11 in Matigara, 24 in Naxalbari, one in Phansidwa, three in Darjeeling Municipality, three in Kurseong Municipality, four in Mirik, five nn Pulbazaar/Bijanbari, two in Sukhia Pokhari and one in Takdah, sources said. Sixteen cases were reported in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC.
Also today, 82 patients either ended their home isolation or were discharged from hopsitals, they said.

59 fresh covid cases in Malda district
Another 59 persons were tested positive for Covid-19 in Malda in tests conducted last night at the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and hospital and through the rapid antigen method, sources said.
Twenty of the 427 sampies tested through the RT-PCR method in the MMCH were tested positive, the sources said.
"Among these, 15 cases were from areas under the th Eglish Bazaar Municipality, while eight cases were from Habihpur. Other blocks had sporadic cases in them," a source said.

59 in South Dinajpur
Officials in South Dinajpur, meanwhile, claimed that the overall Covid situation in the district was under control.
While the number of tests has increased, the recovery rate has also gone up now, sources said.
According to the district health department report, 59 new cases were detected in the district, taking the tally to 4956 so far. A total of 48 patients were discharged from hospitals today, while the total number of patients who have recovered so far is 4663. As of yesterday, the number of active patients in the district was 261. Sources further said that 1380 samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
