Siliguri: One more death; 24 new Covid-19 cases - Government order slashed containment zones to 14 in S Dinajpur

SNS, 10 July 2020, SILIGURI:  A resident of Asighar in Ward-37 under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) died at the dedicated hospital for Covid- 19 patients at Matigara here last evening.The 40- year-old was admitted to the hospital on 7 July.
On the other hand, around 24 cases have been reported in different areas under the SMC in the past 24 hours, sources said. Officials said a total of 25 persons were discharged today from hospitals after they were cured of Covid- 19.
46 fresh cases in Malda
In Malda, 46 fresh cases of Covid- 19 were detected in tests conducted at th e VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) last night. The new cases have taken the number of those affected by the virus in the district to 1,000. There are around 300 active cases, while six persons who tested positive have died, sources said today. "Among the fresh cases, 15 are from English Bazaar, 10 from Ratua-I, six from the English Bazaar Municipality (EBM) and the remaining from other blocks," the sources said.
Meanwhile, police have ramped up vigil and are actively enforcing strict lockdown, in the EBM, Old Malda Municipality and Kaliachak, though people were seen moving around in these areas. "However, wherever and whenever reported, the police took action," sources said.
39 in South Dinajpur
In South Dinajpur, the health department and the civil administration has decided to go for a strict lockdown in three municipality areas and some
panchayat areas, owing to the rise in the number of Covid-19 infections. Thirty new cases were reported this morning. Of them, eight are from the Balurghat Municipality and 11 from rural areas in Balurghat.The total number of affected persons has goneup to 283 in the district, while 223 patients were discharged, officials have said. The number of cases in Balurghat municipality area alone is 26.
"From Thursday evening onwards, a strict lockdown was supposed to be implemented, but there was no activity from the civil administration or the police to implement the same.The number of proposed containment zones has gone down in the town," sources said. The district administration had proposed a lock-down in 51 wards in three municipalities, but in a government order, the number has declined to a mere 14, sources said.The people of Balurghat have, meanwhile, demanded strict lockdown in the municipality
One in Alipurduar
One new positive case was detected in Alipurduar yesterday. Total cases in the district is 194.
