After halting for the night at the Chapramari forest bungalow, the governor and his wife toured the Gorumara forest area and arrived at the TRA substation around noon. Nagrakata BDO Uten Sherpa was also present to brief the governor during the TRA visit.
TRA deputy director A Babu said the Governor Narayanan expressed immense to have got the opportunity to tour the tea research centre. He said they observed the research process and laboratories at the centre and made a number of inquiries with the employees present. Babu added the governor has assured to speak to the state government about futher development of the Nagrakata TRA research centre. Narayanan spent nearly half an hour inside the substation, but declined to interact with the media.
Babu said the centre is the sole substation of TRA and is in dire need of government support. Owing to the non-approval of funds for the centre, research students from North Bengal University are unable to visit the place to conduct work, he said. However, the official expressed optimism about the centre likely receiving official approval within a year following which research students can work.
It may be recalled that on December 13, 2013 then commerce minister Jairam Ramesh had also visited the Nagrakata TRA substation.
