Siliguri death continue - 78 new cases in North Dinajpur - Malda dip in numbers
SNS, SILIGURI, 28 JULY 2020: Four days after the death of a man who had tested positive for Covid-19, his 88-year-old father also died here today. He had also been tested positive for the virus and had been undergoing treatment in home isolation, sources said. Two mom family members, including a two-year-old child, are also infected, it is learnt.
Five persons died in Siliguri in the past 24 hours, while 30 new cases of Covid-19 have been found in areas under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation during the same period, sources said.
A 43-year-old CPI-M activist and resident of Ward 31 had died in a private nursing home on 24 July. Sources said samples of swabs were collected from other family members two days ago and that the health department had asked them to remain in home quarantine.
"The reports arrived following the death of the octogenarian today, his son and grandson have been admitted in the hospital for Covid-19 patients at Kawakhali today," a source said. Another resident of the Ward, a 54-year-old woman, died in the North Bengal Medical College and hospital (NBMCH).
A 72-year-old resident of South Bharatnagar in Ward 24, a 58-year-old of Ward 39 and a resident of Ektiasal also died at the NBMCH last night, it is learnt.
78 new cases in North Dinajpur
Meanwhile, panic gripped people in North Dinajpur district after 78 fresh cases of Covid- 19 were detected in the past 24 hour. Among the fresh cases are 18 from the Raiganj Municipality area and they have been identified as residents of Wards 5, 7, 10,11, 14, 15, 19 and 20. Thirty-two of the new cases are from the Islampur Municipality, while 13 are from Chakulia, and the remaining are from rural areas in Karandighi, Islampur and Raiganj blocks, sources said. According to the daily report of the Health & Family Welfare department of the state government, 1019 persons have been affected by the virus in North Dinajpur district so far.
The Chairman of the Raiganj Municipality,Sandip Biswas, and the chairperson of the board of administrators at the Islampur Municipality Kanaiyalal Agarwal, said there were worried about the spread of the virus.
"However, we are appealing to the people to follow the lockdown rules and other health protocols properly," Mr Biswas said.
Malda dip in numbers
On the other hand, Malda reported a dip in the number of fresh cases. Sixteen fresh cases were detected in tests conducted at the Malda Medical College and Hospital last night, sources said. Ten of the cases are from English Bazaar, three from Chanchal, two from Old Malda and one in Habibpur.
Meanwhile, a trader, Manas Agarwal, who died after testing positive for coronavirus on Sunday, was remembered this morning by members of the North Bengal Petrol Dealers' Association. The president of the association, Ujjwal Saha, said that the deceased was not given proper treatment at the Covid hospital. He demanded that the infrastructure in the hospital be developed.
