Coronavirus: India records biggest single-day rise with 14,516 new cases, tally over 3.95 lakh - The WHO warned that the Covid-19 pandemic was in a ‘new and dangerous’ phase.

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 20 June 2020: India reports its highest ever rise in cases in 24 hours, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 3,95,048. The virus tally rose to 3,80,532 on Friday morning.

Today's bulletin reports 168269 Active Cases, 12948 Deaths and 213831 Recovered / Migrated. It also states that 14516 new cases, 375 deaths and 9120 recoveries is recorded in the last 24 hours.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday made five-day institutional quarantine mandatory for all coronavirus patients in the Capital, which the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has heavily opposed.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization warned that the pandemic is accelerating. “The world is in a new and dangerous phase,” Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a virtual briefing.

Globally, the coronavirus has infected 86.63 lakh people so far, and more than 4.60 lakh people have died of it, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

The Indian Council of Medical Research says that 66,16,496 samples were tested till June 19. In the last 24 hours, 1,89,869 samples have been tested.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has been administered plasma therapy, ANI reports, quoting the health minister’s office. He has no fever now, his health will be monitored at the ICU over the next 24 hours. Jain had tested positive for the coronavirus on June 17.

One more police officer died of the coronavirus in Mumbai on Friday, taking the toll to 31, ANI reports, quoting Mumbai Police Public Relations Officer Pranay Ashok. A total of 2,349 police personnel in the city have contracted the disease.
