Record highest spike in new cases - 6977 new cases.
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 29 May 2020: 66th day of national lockdown-India witnessed a highest spike of the all days 7,466 fresh coronavirus cases which is about 498 more than the highest 6,977 cases of May 25.
India faced an alarming
rise in new cases a week before, it had consecutively registered the number of new
cases as follows: May 25 (6,977 cases), May 24 (6,767 cases), May 23 (6,654
cases), May 22 (6,088 cases), May 20 (5,611 cases), May 21 (5,609) and May 18
(5,242 cases).
As per the Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare’s latest data released, the total number of cases in
the country now stands at 1,65,799 including 89,987 active cases and 175 deaths
in the last 24 hours. As many as 71,106 people have been cured/discharged. The
death toll has reached 4,706.
After the first confirmed
positive case was reported on January 30 in Kerala, the epidemic has expanded
its footprints in the country, affecting more than 1.25 lakh people.
The country is under
lockdown since 25th March and it has been extended till 31st May 2020 in four
phases. Today is the tenth day of the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown
to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Though the number of new cases and death rate has decreased since a couple of days today the number of death has increased from 146 to 170. Number of new cases is slowly decreasing with rise in recovery cases for the past few days which lowered the active cases too.
Today 3414 patients were
released after recovery (1 day before-3266, 2 days before-3935) that tally 71106
(1 day before-67692, 2 days before-64426) that is 42.45 per cent of patients
have recovered.
Within the last 24 hours 89987 active cases (1 day before-86110, 2 days before-80722) is recorded. Today there are 7466 new cases (1 day before-6566, 2 days before-6535) and 165799 confirmed cases (1 day before-158333, 2 days before-145380) is recorded.
Maharashtra still remains the worst-hit state of the country with 59546 confirmed cases (1 day before-56948, 2 days before-54748), 1982 deaths (1 day before-1897, 2 days before-1792,) and 18616 recovery (1 day before-17918, 2 days before-16954). However, in what may come as a relief to the state, Maharashtra has been showing a slight decline in the number of new cases reported in the last two days.
Tamilnadu is the second highest with 19372 confirmed cases (1 day before-18545, 2 days before-17728) and 145 death (1 day before-133, 2 days before-127) and 10548 recovery (1 day before-9909, 2 days before-8731).
Delhi is again in the third position with highest increase of cases observed, with 18281 confirmed cases (1 day before-15257, 2 days before- 14465), 7495 recovery (1 day before-7264, 2 days before- 7223), and 316 death (1 day before-303, 2 days before- 288).
Gujrat, is in the fourth position and has 15562 confirmed cases (1 day before-15195, 2 days before 14821) and 960 death (1 day before-938, 2 days before-915) and 8003 recovery (1 day before-7549, 2 days before-7139) and release from Hospital.
Meanwhile, the government is reportedly reviewing the 60-day lockdown period to chalk out strategy after May 30 – the day when the lockdown 4.0 is scheduled to end. According to reports, the Prime Minister’s Office is concerned about the rapidly increasing coronavirus cases as well as the number of people under quarantine.
