
Kalimpong no longer Containment and Buffer zone

On 15th May a declaration on the withdrawal of the previous order is made and as per order these areas of Kalimpong nolonger is KalimNews, Kalimpong, 16 May 2020: Declaration of containment zone in some areas of Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts is withdrawn by the district magistrate. Vide memo no. 25 Con dated 17 April 2020 a notification was made declaring Ward no 11,12 of Kalimpong Municipality as a Containment zone while ward nos. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,12,,13 & 14 of Kalimpong Municipality were declared as Buffer zone. On 15th May a declaration on the withdrawal of the previous order is made and as per order these areas of Kalimpong nolonger is Containment and Buffer zone.
In the order, District Magistrate of Kalimpong has stated that house to house survey had been done thoroughly and all Influemza like illness (ILI) / Severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patients from this containment and Buffer zone had been tested for Covid 19 infection and foubd to be negative till date. Hence the declaration of of Containment zone in the areas stated above is hereby withdrawn with effect from 15 th May2020.
Kalimpong had reported the last case of infection on 2nd April when the 6 family members of the Kalimpong victim tested positive. All the 9 persons of the family and a helping hand had tested positive. They all were kept in isolation ward and treated in Covid -19 hospital. On 17th April the last group of their family numbering four tested negative and released from Isolation centre.
The death of the Kalimpong victim was West Bengal’s second Covid-19 death on March 29. The deceased 44 year old lady had stayed in Jalpaiguri’s Jyotinagar for five to six days on her way home from Chennai.
As per the protocol of World Health Organisation, a Containment Zone is a geographically-defined area and population that surrounds the Index Cluster of persons with pandemic influenza and where widespread pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical measures would be used to stop further spread of the pandemic virus.
A Buffer zone is a geographically-defined area and population surrounding the Containment Zone where active and complete surveillance is done to detect all possible cases of pandemic influenza.
