India have crossed 1 lakh-mark and COVID 19 death tally is nearing 3,200-mark even as Lockdown 4.0 has been extended in the country
KalimNews and agencies, Kalimpong, 19 May 2020: Today is the second day of the fourth phase and 56th day of the nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19. The country is under lockdown since 25th March and it has been extended till 31st May 2020 in four phases.
Around the world, there are close to 48 lakh coronavirus cases with over 3.15 lakh Covid 19 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University and Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center.
It took 64 days for COVID-19 cases in India to touch the 1 lakh-mark from 100, taking a longer period than other countries such as the US, Spain, and Italy which have been hit hard by the pandemic, according to data shared by official sources. According to the data sourced from the health ministry and Worldometers, in the US, coronavirus infection cases increased from 100 to 1,00,000 in 25 days, while it took 30 days for the cases to reach the 1 lakh-mark in Spain.

It took 35 days in Germany, 36 days in Italy, 39 days in France and 42 days in the United Kingdom for the coronavirus infection cases to rise from 100 to 1 lakh respectively. The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 3,163 and the number of cases climbed to 1,01,139 in India on Tuesday registering an increase of 134 deaths and 4,970 cases of coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours since Monday 8 am, according to the Union Health Ministry.
Among the countries with a very high load of coronavirus cases, the US, with 14,09,452 instances of the infection so far, has around 431 cases per lakh population. The UK has so far reported 2,40,165 cases which is 361 cases per lakh population, while Spain with 2,30,698 instances of the disease has about 494 cases per lakh.
Italy has 2,24,760 total cases and about 372 cases per lakh population, while Germany, which has registered 1,74,355 instances of the infection, has around 210 cases per lakh population. France, which has reported 1,40,008 cases, has around 209 cases per lakh population.
Due to the rapid increase in country's COVID-19 tally, India extended the nationwide lockdown for two more weeks but with considerable relaxations in non-containment zones While all markets, offices, industries, and businesses will be allowed to open, inter-state and intra-state movement of “passenger vehicles and buses” will be permitted with the consent of the states involved. The restrictions on air travel (domestic and international) and Metro rail services will continue, and schools, colleges, and other educational institutes will remain closed.
India's COVID-19 tally crossed one lakh on Monday with more people testing positive for the virus in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and other states even as a much-relaxed fourth phase of the lockdown began with restarting of market complexes, autos, taxis and inter-state buses in various parts of the country.
During the last 24 hours, patients 2350 (1 day before-2715, 2 days before- 3956) that tally 39174 (1 day before-36823, 2 days before 34109) persons infected by Covid-19 have recovered from the disease and 4970 fresh cases (1 day before-5242, 2 days before-4987) of Covid-19 have been reported taking the total number of cases to 101139 (1 day before-96169, 2 days before-90927).
A total of deaths 134 (1 day before-157, 2 days before-120) have been registered in last 24 hours taking the nationwide toll to 3163 (1 day before-3029, 2 days before-2872) due to the disease.
Within the last 24 hours 58802 active cases (1 day before-56316, 2 days before-53946) is recorded.

According to the latest update released by the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare. Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state of the country with 35058 (1 day before-33053, 2 days before-30706) confirmed cases and 1249 (1 day before-1198, 2 days before-1135) deaths and 8437 (1 day before-7688, 2 days before-7088) recovery.
Tamilnadu is the second highest with 11760 (1 day before-11224, 2 days before-10585) confirmed cases and 81 (1 day before-78, 2 days before-74) death and 4406 (1 day before-4172, 2 days before-3538) recovery.
The third highest increase is observed in Gujrat, it has 11745 (1 day before-11379, 2 days before 10988) confirmed cases and 694 (1 day before-659, 2 days before-625) death and 4804 (1 day before -4499, 2 days before-4308) recovery and release from Hospital.
The next is Delhi with 10554 (1 day before-10054, 2 days before-9333) confirmed cases and 166 (1 day before-160, 2 days before-129) death and 4485 (1 day before-4485, 2 days before-3926) recovery.
