Day 58...Nearly 50% of total COIVD-19 deaths reported from one Ahmedabad civic hospital...new cases- 5,609, total cases-1,12,359. active cases- 63,624,-cured/discharged-45,300, deaths-3435

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 21 May 2020- Day 58: Globally, more than 5 million people have been infected with the virus, while 3,25,810 have died, news agency Reuters reported. As scientists across the world work frantically to find a vaccine against COVID-19, all eyes are on US-based company Moderna’s encouraging early results on a small group of healthy volunteers. Despite the continued increase in cases, many countries are opening schools and workplaces following weeks of lockdown that have stemmed the spread.

Today is the fourth day of the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19. The country is under lockdown since 25th March and it has been extended till 31st May 2020 in four phases. 

During the last 24 hours, 3002 patients (1 day before-3124, 2 days before- 2350) that tally 45300 (1 day before-42298, 2 days before 39174) have recovered and 56009 fresh cases (1 day before-5611, 2 days before-4970) of Covid-19 have been reported taking the total number of cases to 112359 (1 day before-106750, 2 days before-101139).

A total of  132 deaths (1 day before-140, 2 days before-134) have been registered in last 24 hours taking the nationwide toll to 3435  (1 day before-3303, 2 days before-3163). 

Within the last 24 hours 63624 active cases (1 day before-61149, 2 days before-58802) is recorded.

According to the latest update released by the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare.  Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state of the country with     39297 (1 day before-37136, 2 days before-35058) confirmed cases and 1390 (1 day before-1325, 2 days before-1249) deaths and 10318 (1 day before-9639, 2 days before-8437) recovery. 

Tamilnadu is the second highest with 13191 (1 day before-12448, 2 days before-11760) confirmed cases and 87 (1 day before-84, 2 days before-81) death and 5882 (1 day before-4895, 2 days before-4406) recovery. 

The third highest increase is observed in Gujrat, it has 12537 (1 day before-12140, 2 days before 11745) confirmed cases and 749 (1 day before-719, 2 days before-694) death and 5219 (1 day before -5043, 2 days before-4804) recovery and release from Hospital.
