AMPHAN- Landfall started at 2.30 pm
KalimNews and agencies, 20 May 2020, 1600HRS, Kalimpong: The landfall process of Cyclone Amphan commenced since 2:30 pm, will continue for about 4 hours.The center of Cyclone Amphan is approaching land near Kasafal, India, beginning the process of landfall.The forward sector of the wall cloud region is entering into land in West Bengal
Kasafal lies in the eastern Indian state of Odisha.
Amphan is currently 240 km (150 miles) from Kolkata, India and has sustained winds of 160 kph (100 mph), which is equivalent to a category 2 Atlantic hurricane.Paradeep wagon maintenance shed roof blown away due to strong winds of Super Cyclonic Storm Amphan
While coastal areas are now experiencing a wind-speed of 140-150 km/hr, wind speeds in Kolkata (as per Alipore Met Department readings) is around 69 km/hr.
Coastal areas like Digha, Mandarmoni, Sagar Island and regions in the Sunderbans delta like Hindolganj, Kakdwip among others are to be amongst the worst hit places.
Heavy rain and a storm surge of up to 5 meters tall (17 feet) is forecast as the storm makes landfall across eastern India and Bangladesh.
