140 dies today tally 3303 deaths..5611 new cases and 3124 recovery

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 20 May 2020: Day 57 OF INDIAS LOCKDOWN- India has about 7.1 COVID-19 positive cases per lakh population as compared to the total confirmed cases in the world, which is approximately 60 cases per lakh population, said the health ministry. “Aggressive and early measures have shown encouraging results," health ministry said in a statement.
Livemint.com reports  that India witnessed the biggest surge in COVID-19 count as the states had recorded 5,611 coronavirus cases in last 24 hours. Maharashtra continued to add over 2,000 fresh cases on Tuesday. Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat also saw a huge spike in daily coronavirus cases. The number of deaths due to coronavirus infection rose to 3,303. As many as 140 COVID-19 patients succumbed to death in last 24 hours. Maharashtra reported the highest single-day death toll of 76, a lion's share of coronavirus fatalities on Tuesday.
India's mortality rate is about 0.2 per lakh population compared to 4.1 per lakh population for the world, the health ministry said. "In terms of case mortality per lakh population, India has so far about 0.2 deaths per lakh population vis-a-vis approx. 4.1 deaths per lakh population for the world as a whole," the ministry said in a statement.

Today is the third day of the fourth phase  and 57th day of the nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19. The country is under lockdown since 25th March and it has been extended till 31st May 2020 in four phases.

During the last 24 hours, patients 3124 (1 day before-2350, 2 days before- 2715) that tally 42298 (1 day before-39174, 2 days before 36823) have recovered and  5611 fresh cases (1 day before-4970, 2 days before-5242) of Covid-19 have been reported taking the total number of cases to 106750 (1 day before-101139, 2 days before-96169). 
A total of 140 deaths (1 day before-134, 2 days before-157) have been registered in last 24 hours taking the nationwide toll to 3303 (1 day before-3163, 2 days before-3029). 
Within the last 24 hours 61149 active cases (1 day before-58802, 2 days before-56316) is recorded.
According to the latest update released by the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare.  Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state of the country with    37136 (1 day before-35058, 2 days before-33053) confirmed cases and 1325 (1 day before-1249, 2 days before-1198) deaths and 9639 (1 day before-8437, 2 days before-7688) recovery. 
Tamilnadu is the second highest with 12448 (1 day before-11760, 2 days before-11224) confirmed cases and 84 (1 day before-81, 2 days before-78) death and 7649 (1 day before-4406, 2 days before-4172) recovery. 
The third highest increase is observed in Gujrat, it has 12140 (1 day before-11745, 2 days before 11379) confirmed cases and 719 (1 day before-694, 2 days before-659) death and 5043 (1 day before -4804, 2 days before-4499) recovery and release from Hospital.
