GJM appeals to district administration for stringent implementation of lockdownAmitava Banerjee | MP | 15 April 2020 | Darjeeling: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has appealed to the district administration, Darjeeling Municipality and the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration for stringent implementation of the lockdown.
"People are violating the lockdown. The market is getting crowded. The number of vehicles is increasing on the streets. We have requested the district administration, police, municipality and GTA to take strict action against the violators," stated Binay Tamang, former GTA Chairman and President GJM.
The GJM has proposed that a dedicated entrance and exit to the market be earmarked and all other exit-entry points to be closed.
"This way one can keep a check on the crowd and ensure physical distancing. We have also proposed that only shops with valid municipal license be allowed to operate in the marketplace," stated Tamang.
The GJM has also urged the traffic police to check the validity of the permission letters issued by authorities to vehicles. Most of the vehicles were using the same permission letter over and over again claimed Tamang.
In another development, the husband of the nurse of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital who was infected by COVID 19, has also tested positive.
Both the nurse and her husband have been admitted at the Dr Chang's Nursing Home which is the dedicated COVID-19 hospital for the Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts. The child of the couple has been kept in home-quarantine.
A person with COVID 19 like symptoms from Pokhriabong, Darjeeling who had gone to the NBMCH on his own and got admitted, was released on Wednesday after he tested negative.
Meanwhile, the DESUN hospital of Siliguri has finally been taken over by the district administration. Two administrative staff of the hospital were arrested in the wee hours of Monday following a complaint by the District Magistrate, Darjeeling at the Matigara police station alleging of non-cooperation by the Hospital. Two locals were also arrested for creating trouble in the same case.
"We have taken over the hospital. 40 patients from the DESUN hospital have been shifted to the NBMCH. The DESUN Hospital will henceforth be used as a COVID-19 screening centre," stated Dr Pralay Acharya, CMOH, Darjeeling.
