Former Darjeeling MP dies

TT, 7 April 2020, Darjeeling: First Darjeeling MP Reverend Theodore Manaen, 98, breathed his last at his residence in Siliguri on Tuesday morning.
Manaen had won the 1957 general election on the Indian National Congress ticket. That year, Bengal had 28 Lok Sabha seats. He won the Darjeeling seat for the second time in 1962. Manaen rose through the ranks to become the general secretary of the Congress.
Hill leaders like Binay Tamang, Bimal Gurung and Amar Lama condoled the ex-MP's death.

[KalimNews: Rev. Theodore Manean was former Moderator of the Eastern Himalayan church Council (EHCC) and also a member of the World Mission Prayer League (WIMPL) and he spent some years in Canada. He was offered the citizenship by the Canadian Government, but he decided to return home and serve the church in his own country.He served the Eastern Himalayan Church Council (EHCC) as a dynamic Moderator in late nineties. He played a pivotal role in reviving and re-establishing the UCNI church in Siliguri, which continues to be a vibrant church today.
He mentored several church pastors who continue to serve the Council with dedication and efficiency. The funeral service was conducted at his residence in Siliguri and at the church cemetery thereafter by Rev. S.T.Lepcha Moderator of EHCC.]
