Cases in India cross 2,300

PTI, 3 April 2020, New Delhi: The nationwide tally of confirmed cases of Covid-19 crossed 2,300 with at least 73 deaths.

Officials said nearly 9,000 people, who either took part in the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in New Delhi or their primary contacts, have been identified and quarantined across the country.

In its latest update on Thursday, the Union home ministry put the consolidated nationwide tally at 53 deaths and 2,069 confirmed cases of infection, including 55 foreign nationals.

In the total tally, about 400 Covid-19 positive cases have been found whose epidemiological linkage can be traced to the Tablighi Jamaat cluster, the Union health ministry.

The ministry asserted there was no evidence of widespread community transmission and 20 existing and 22 potential hotspots have been identified across the country.

The Centre has written to all states and union territories that "the lockdown measures should be implemented in letter and spirit".
