Kalimpong patients tested negative, released from Covid-19 hospital ....Kalimpong Covid-19 free

KalimNews, 17 April 2020, Kalimpong: All 4 members of the Singh family under treatment and completing quarantine period were released today from the Isolation centre of Covid 19 Hospital of Siliguri. 

Two were admitted at Dr. Chang's Superspeciality Hospital which is a designated Covid-19 Hospital and other two at Jalpaiguri Superspeciality Hospital. They are son, daughter and daughter-in-law and her daughter child of the Singh family.

Since all primary, secondary and tertiary contacts of the 44 year old lady of Singh family who died of Covid-19, including the Doctor who treated her in the initial stage tested negative twice and completed quarantine period, people of Kalimpong are relieved of the fear of Covid -19 and are anxiously waiting for the announcement of its categorisation to green zone.


Their two consecutive tests resulted negative. All the quarantined people were asymptomatic suspects of the Covid 19 patient who died during the treatment. 

Initially the 44 year old deceased lady with a history of travel to Chennai for the treatment of her daughter reported suffering from mild fever and cough after her return on 19 March to Kalimpong. She consulted a local Doctor at Kalimpong and due to complications she was admitted at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on 26th March 2020. On 28th she was found Covid-19 positive. She died at NBMCH on 30th March. 

All the contacts of the deceased lady were tested for Covid 19 and 4 of the immediate family members including her husband tested positive on 1st April and on 2nd April 5 more members of her family and a domestic help were found postive and moved to two Isolation centres at Jalpaiguri and Siliguri and were under treatment and observation. After testing twice 2 of them were released on 11th April, 4 persons on 12th April and on 17th April remaining 4 were declared negative and released.


In another quarantine centre at ITI Fagu of Gorubathan under kalimpong district there are 16 asymptomic people.


Status Report of Covid-19 issued by the GTA states that there are 138 people for self quarantine in the district of Darjeeling. Yesterday there were 116 persons in self quarantine.

Today's report states that in Kalimpong within 24 hr, 53 people completed their quarantine period and there are still 84 persons in self quarantine, yesterday, there were 137 persons.
  
Meanwhile two nurses, husband and mother in law of one nurse who tested positive are under treatment at isolation centre of Covid -19 hospital in Chang's Superspeciality Hospital. It is alleged that they were contaminated with the disaease while they were on duty in the ward and units where the late Singh lady and another Railway staff were admitted and no PPEs of good quality were issued to the on duty staff for protection. Presently both the nurses and their relatives are recovering. A doctor of another nursing home who was suspected of Covid-19 symptom was admitted in the RICU of NBMCH tested negative. 

1076 new cases were reported within 24 hrs in the country raising the number of confirmed cases to 13835 with 32 more deaths to 452 deaths from 420 and 1767 were discharged.

The highest number of cases is recorded in Maharashtra with 3205 confirmed cases and 194 deaths and 300 released after recovery. The next is Delhi with 1640 confirmed cases, 38 death and 51 recovery followed by Madhya Pradesh that outnumbered Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh recorded with 1308 confirmed case and 57 death (3 new death) and 65 released. 

The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state of West Bengal is increased by 22 new cases with release of 4.  

As of today there are 162 active cases with 10 deaths.  

An official release of the West Bengal Health and family welfare department on Covid-19 states that 3811 samples are tested for Covid-19 in the state and 36071 persons are under home observation/surveillance and 21476 persons have completed surveillance. 

Till today under hospital isolation 2816 persons have been admitted and there are 506 persons as admitted patients. So far 2310 persons have been discharged from hospital isolation after completing quarantine period while 55 are discharged after the treatment. 

In the state there are 582 Institutional Quarantine Centres in which 12619 persons are kept in Institutional Quarantine (Cumulative) and so far 8780 persons have been released from Institutional Quarantine (Cumulative).
