Indian values for teachers- NCTE recommends Both 2 year BED and 4 year Integrated BABEd

TT, 31 October 2019: T New Delhi: The teacher education system should aim at creating teachers grounded in Indian values, a revised draft National Education Policy (NEP) is expected to recommend.
The draft policy, which will be sent for approval of the Union cabinet and Parliament, will propose that future teachers have a good command of Indian values, knowledge system, ethos and traditions.
If approved, these components will be integrated into the BEd courses, said officials of the human resource development ministry. At present, the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) is the regulator for BEd programmes. The task of regulation may be transferred to a single higher education regulator.
The NCTE has allowed 17,000 approved institutions to run a two-year BEd course for graduates and a four-year Integrated BEd course for Class XII pass-outs.
Students enrolled under the Integrated BEd launched from this year would get BABEd or BSc-BEd after successful completion of the course. The new draft policy wants institutions to run both types of BEd courses. In addition, it has floated the idea of a one year BEd course for those who have completed a four-year Bachelor's degree course and the two-year Master's.
