Kalimpong bags 13 state-level medals

TT, 5 August 2019: ICSE schools from Kalimpong district bagged 13 medals, including three gold, three silver and five bronze, at the Regional Karate Competition 2019 (West Bengal and North East States) in the under-14 and under-17 years (boys and girls) category conducted by Council of Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) at Divine Mercy School, Howrah, on August 2 and 3.
The gold medal winners were from Rockvale Academy, Kalimpong. "The students of all schools were trained by Sensei Sushan Thapa (black belt-4th Dan) who is also a certified national coach," said Prativa Chettri, teacher Mount Carmel School, Kalimpong.

The winners will represent Bengal and Northeast in the CISCE national games for a final selection to represent ICSE board in the National School Games, organised by School Games Federation of India (SGFI), which is under the Union ministry of youth affairs.

The following were the podium finishers: Gold: Karya Ekru, Rockvale Academy, (U-14 girls), Priyadarshan Thapa, Rockvale Academy, (U-14 boys) and Stephen Tamang, Rockvale Academy (U-17 boys).

Silver: Wangchen Bhutia, Rockvale, (U-14 boys), Varsha Sagar, Vrindavan School, (U-14 girls) and Aakriti Dangal, Vrindavan School (U-17 girls).

Bronze: Tsering Newar, Rockvale Academy, (U-14 girls), Sidhant Chhetri, Mount Carmel School, (U-14 boys), Kritan Parajuli, Vrindavan School, (U-17 boys), Tenzing Lhekdup Bhutia, St. Augustine's School, (U-14 boys), Rinchen Lama, Saptashri Gyanpeeth, (U-17 girls)..
