Youth on Love Dharna Emerges Victorious
The incident occurred in Collegepara, Dhupguri in the Jalpaiguri district. Anant Burman has been sitting in front of Lipika Burman’s house since Sunday morning.
Armed with a mosquito net and placards displaying photographs of the duo, the love smitten has refused to budge unless the two get to tie the knot.
With news of Anant’s love crusade people from far and wide arrived to watch his protest. Soon numbers swelled to thousands. Roadside food vendors did brisk business selling “Jhalmuri” and “Phuchka.”
Lipika’s family members had fixed her marriage with another youth from Alipurduar.
The family members of the other youth from Alipurduar arrived at Lipika’s house to be met with protests by Anant (by now supported by the teeming residents.) Police complaints by Lipika’s family and the family member’s of the youth from Alipurduar failed to deter Anant.
Owing to the crowd Lipika’s mother fell ill and had to be admitted to the hospital. The local councilor and important personalities of the locality intervened. They initiated talks between Lipika and Anant’s family.
Anant and Lipika tied the knot in the evening. Love finally triumphed.
