Film prize for Sikkim native
RAJEEV RAVIDAS, TT, 27 Apr 2019, Gangtok: Tribeny Rai, a short filmmaker from Sikkim, has bagged second prize in the "short film idea" category at the 37th Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) 2019, which concluded at Tehran in Iran on Thursday.
The 27-year-old Tribeny was among the two young filmmakers from India invited to attend the workshop called "Talent Campus" which is held as part of Iran's largest film festival.
Tribeny chose family as the topic of her short film, and the jury adjudged her concept to be the second best among the participants.
As part of the award, the FIFF will give Tribeny a grant to make a short film on her chosen theme of family.
The film will be titled "A house full of women".
Tribeny hails from the tiny village of Nandok near Ranipool and is a product the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata from where she did a diploma in film direction and screenplay writing in 2015.
She has so far made close to 10 short films and documentaries, many of them have done the festival rounds both in India and abroad.
Tribeny said she was happy to have bagged the second prize, but even more important was that fact that she got an opportunity to interact with filmmakers from across the world during the course of the seven-day festival.
"I met 59 fellow filmmakers from around the world and bonded with them. This was the best things that could have happened to me at the festival.".
