Cabinet approved 50 Kendriya Vidyalayas for Siliguri....
TT, 9 Mar 2019News, Siliguri/Jalpaiguri: The Union government and the railways have announced a slew of decisions for north Bengal ahead of Lok Sabha polls.
On Thursday, the cabinet approved 50 locations for setting up Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs).
"The decision was made to provide more schools to children of different forces, central government departments and students in general. Two locations near Siliguri will get the new schools. In the days to come, we believe, these two new KVs will contribute to education in and around Siliguri and will provide newer options to students," said Abhijit Roychoudhury, the Siliguri (organisational) district president of the BJP.
Of the two KVs, one will be set up on a railway plot near New Jalpaiguri station, the largest station in north Bengal and a major station in east and northeast India.
The other school will come up at the CRPF Group Centre that has come up in Kawakhali off Asian Highway 2. It is on the south-western part of Siliguri near North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
The Northeast Frontier Railway on Friday announced that the Padatik Express that runs between Sealdah and New Alipurduar would stop at Jalpaiguri Road station.
After Darjeeling Mail, Padatik Express is one of the popular trains which connect Calcutta with north Bengal
