36 kg cannabis seized; one held

SNS, 27 November 2018, Siliguri: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police (SMP) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) have seized 36 kg of cannabis in two separate incidents and arrested one person in this connection.

The SMP arrested one pas on with 26kg of cannabis from Pradhan Nagar in Siliguri yesterday. The accused has been identified as Md Jabbar, a resident of Pradhan Nagar. Police officials said the accused has been sent in 14 days' judicial custody.

According to the police, the accused allegedly used to supply brown sugar and cannabis to students in Champasari, Devidanga, Sukna, Salbari, Milan More and Pradhan Nagar. There are many cases registered against him, police sources said.

"The accused was produced in the court, where the court ordered him in 14 days' judicial custody," said a police official.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident. the GRP recovered 10 kg of cannabis from the Rajdhani Express at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station in Siliguri today. However, no one was arrested in this connection.

"Acting on a tip off, a raid was conducted in the Down Rajdhani Express (Dibugarh to New Delhi) and 10 kg cannabis has been recovered from its compartment.No one has been arrested in this connection," officials of the GRP said.

Notably, in the past four days, the SMP has seized around 300 kg of cannabis and arrested five persons.
