Pawan Chamling inaugurates College of Nursing and Ayush Hospital building

SUJAL PRADHAN, EOI, Gangtok, 10 Sep 2018: Sikkim has got its new Government College of Nursing and Integrated Ayush Hospital which was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on Monday. Classes of the first batch of students were going on since August, but now these would shift to the new building which the Chief Minister inaugurated.

The course is completely free of cost as Sikkim Government has a policy of free education till graduation level.  The Chief Miniser said the MBBS course which would begin next year would also be free of cost. The government is all set to start the new medical college from next year. The medical college would be set up within the upcoming 1000-bed multi-speciality hospital the construction of whcih would be completed within the year.

During the day, the Cheif Minister also launched the website of the new Nursing College and State's Proud Mother Scheme.

“Looking at the problems in recruiting medical staff now we will not follow roaster system so that we can fill the all the medical vacancies so that people of the state not don't suffer any more,” the Chief Minister said while addressing the gathering. He asked concern officials to fill up all the existing vacancies within two months.

Chamling  said the health sector had always been one of the priority sectors of the State Government. The objective was to offer the people of the State the best health care services. “The effort of our Government has been to provide healthcare services with focus on preventive measures rather than on curative care with the objective to bring about holistic health care and wellness,” he said.

Ayush Hospital has facilities like ayurveda, yoga and homeopathy. Healthcare treatments provided by Ayush hospital are considered to be one of the oldest healing practices since ancient times.
