Hindu Mahasabha Backs West Bengal Government's Plan for Jagannath Temple in Digha
Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, December 13, 2024, Kolkata : The West Bengal branch of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha has expressed strong support for the state government's decision to build a Jagannath Temple in Digha. Dr. Chandrachud Goswami, the state president of the organization, welcomed the initiative, stating that there is no objection to the government funding the construction of temples.
Dr. Goswami pointed out that if people from other communities can receive government subsidies for their pilgrimage sites, there should be no issue with the state supporting the construction of Hindu temples. He emphasized that India, as a secular nation, must ensure equal treatment for all religious groups. He further argued that dividing communities into minorities and majorities only fuels communal tensions.
In his statement, Dr. Goswami highlighted the broader societal benefits of temple construction, including economic growth and employment opportunities. Temples not only serve as places of worship but also contribute to local development by creating jobs in industries such as food, flower selling, and handicrafts. Additionally, the donations from devotees help in supporting the underprivileged, with many receiving free meals and Prasad.
Dr. Goswami also addressed the role of political parties in supporting Hindutva, stating that no single party or organization can claim to represent the majority's religious sentiments. Instead, all political entities must demonstrate respect for these sentiments through their actions. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that other states across India will follow West Bengal's example by establishing similar temples under government initiatives.
