
Abducted Bihar boy rescued from Malda

KOUSIK SEN, TT, Sep 04, 2018, Raiganj: A minor boy abducted from Kishanganj in Bihar last month by a domestic help of the family was rescued from Malda on Sunday.
Eleven-year-old Priyangshu Kumar was kidnapped for ransom, a team of Bihar and Bengal police from Englishbazar in Malda said arresting the maid, Manju Devi, and an accomplice.
Police sources said Priyangshu's father Shyamnandan Poddar was a businessman in Kishanganj. "They abducted the boy on August 25 and brought him to Malda. Investigations have revealed that Arun Kumar, the person arrested along with Manju, had planned the abduction. He had even called the boy's father and had demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh," said a police source.
The boy's father filed a complaint at Kishanganj police station based on which, police started investigation.
"The police also came to know that as per the plan, Manju took the job of an ayah at the boy's home. They started tracking the cellphones of the duo and reached Malda on Sunday evening," the source added.
The police team from Bihar reached at Englishbazar police station where a joint team was formed to conduct the raid.
On Monday, they were produced at a local court in Malda and ordered on transit remand for three days to be taken to Kishanganj with the boy. His family members have been informed about the rescue, they said.
"The duo need to be interrogated to know whether they had abducted the boy only for ransom or there is some other issue," said the official.
