West Bengal government wants three-phase panchayat election
TNN, | Mar 19, 2018, NEW DELHI: Panchayat elections may be held in three phases in West Bengal with the government headquarter Nabanna keen to have a three-phase election.
According to sources, Mamata Banerjee’s government is going to propose a three-phase panchayat election from May 3 They want poll in six districts of North Bengal on that day, with the second phase on May 7 and the third phase on May 10.
Polling in six districts, including Maldah, Murshidabad and Nadia, may held in the second phase, while the South Bengal election could be held in the third phase.
The government wants counting to take place on May 13. Source claimed the state government would propose these dates to the Election Commission.
The government has not confirmed these dates. Panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee said, “I have not decided any proposal on polling dates. If Nabanna has decided anything then I am not aware of it.”
