RAJEEV RAVIDAS, TT, Feb 04, 2018, Kalimpong: A widow and her two minor sons were murdered allegedly by her brother-in-law at the remote village of Bhasmay under Jaldhaka police station on the Bhutan border on Saturday night.
The triple murder happened around 9pm on Saturday when Surya Bhujel, 35, went to the house of his sister-in-law Junita Bhujel, 28, and attacked her and her two sons, Akrit, 8 and Ahtit, 6, with a sharp-edged weapon, leaving them dead in a pool of blood.
Surya went to the Jaldhaka police station early Sunday morning and surrendered.
Police said according to preliminary investigation, Surya wanted the job of his older brother Dhruba, who was a worker in the Rongo cinchona plantation and had died about six months back, but his sister-in-law wanted it for herself in order to raise her children.
"From preliminary investigation, we have come to know that there were a lot of differences between the two on the (job) issue, and they used to have lot of altercations over it. This could have been the motive behind the killings, but we have sought his remand in order to unearth the real reason (behind the killings)," said Ajeet Singh Yadav, the superintendent of police, Kalimpong district.
Surya, who was remanded in five days police custody by a Kalimpong court, said he had committed the crime under the influence of alcohol.
"I didn't have real differences with my sister-in-law. I had had a few drinks last night, and did what I did. I regret it. When I realised what I had done, I went to the police station and surrendered," he told reporters in front of the Kalimpong police station.
