Support for Kamal...assertion about the presence of Hindu terror.
TT, Bangalore: Actor Prakash Raj, who had questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on journalist Gauri Lankesh's murder, has supported superstar Kamal Haasan's assertion about the presence of Hindu terror.
In a tweet on Friday afternoon, Raj, known for playing the comic villain in many Hindi films besides essaying varied characters in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam cinema, said cow vigilantism, moral policing and other such acts were terrorising people. He addressed the post "to whomsoever it may concern".
The tweet said: "If abusing and manhandling young couples on the streets of my country in the name of morality is not terrorising... if taking law into hands and lynching people on the slightest doubt of cow slaughter is not terrorising... if trolling with abuse, threat to silence even a slightest voice of dissent is not terrorising... then what is terrorising....#justasking."
Haasan has come under attack for saying "Hindu terrorism" is real in his weekly column in the popular Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan. The 62-year-old actor wrote that the Hindu Right wing could no longer claim it was non-violent and say "show me a Hindu terrorist".
Haasan, who has of late dropped broad hints about joining politics, has often made statements against the Hindutva ideology. The controversial column too was in response to a question raised by his "friend", Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Vijayan and sought the actor's view on Hindutva forces emerging in Tamil Nadu politics.
While deriding Hindutva politics, Haasan recently lauded Kerala for its cultural temperament and secular way of living, after the BJP described the southern state as a "hotbed of Islamic terrorism".
Raj, who has 1.6 million Twitter followers, had got embroiled in a controversy a month ago when he questioned Modi's silence on Lankesh's murder outside her Bangalore home and described it as "acting."
