Salary protest at tea centre
TT, Jalpaiguri, Oct. 10: Around 25 employees of the Tea Research Association's sub-station at Nagrakata observed cease-work today as they were paid only 60 per cent of their salaries this month.
The staff resorted to a dharna and a demonstration from 8am. The protest was withdrawn around 4pm when the authorities assured them of immediate payment of the dues.
The TRA is run by the tea planters' associations and is also funded by the Tea Board of India to carry out research.
The TRA is headquartered at Toklai in Assam.
Paucity of funds at the TRA was the reason for the disbursal of less amounts, sources said.
