Book on Darjeeling society released

SNS, Siliguri, 14 September 2014: Salesian College Publications released a book written by Dr Nupur Das at the Salesian College auditorium in Siliguri on Saturday.
‘Darjeeling: Society, Economy and Polity’ is based on Dr Das’ research papers and vast study since a long period of time. The book reflects the historical and contemporary growth of Darjeeling and its people.
Chief guest Fr Mathew Pullingathil, the rector of Salesian College, and other guests inaugurated the book release event by lighting a lamp and finally unveiled the book after speeches delivered by the guests, including the principal of the college Fr George Thadathil.
“Everyone has played their own role in bringing out the book,” said Dr Thadathil, giving his valuable insights on the contents of the book. “This book unveils the history of the emergence of Darjeeling as a social entity backed by economic prospects and spearheaded by political aspirations with unique socio cultural features arising out of the unique combination of the inhabitants and their lifestyles,” said Dr Das, the under-graduate council secretary at North Bengal University.
Top officials from North Bengal University, teachers and students of the college attended the event.
