Owners of vehicles registered outside Bengal to face stern action
SNS, KOLKATA, 11 OCTOBER: The state government will take stern measures against car owners who registered their vehicles in other states and ply it in Bengal, state transport minister Suvendu Adhikari said today.
Talking to the newsmen at Paribahan Bhavan, Mr Adhikari said that state transport department is losing revenue to the tune of crores of rupees as vehicle owners are registering their vehicles in other states.
It was found that many cars are registered in neighboring states like Sikkim, hand, Jharkhand, Orissa and vehicle owners paid road tax, registration fees and other taxes to other state governments while the vehicles are plying in West Bengal, Mr Adhikari said.
Mr Adhikari also instructed motor vehicle inspectors, regional transport officers and police officers to seize-the vehicles that are registered in other states but are being run in West Bengal. State government will press into service 300 new buses, including electrical buses from December in the state, the transport minister said.
